Beyond the Studio
Practices that shape how I move, listen, perform, and collaborate.
My creative work is informed by experiences beyond visual art. Volleyball has taught me to read bodies in motion; orchestra has trained me to listen within a collective; theatre has shown me how gesture, timing, and space shape an audience’s understanding.
These practices are not separate from my studio work. They influence how I approach rhythm, composition, collaboration, and the relationship between individual expression and a larger group.
Sports
ISB Varsity Volleyball Outside Hitter
I have competed as an outside hitter for the ISB varsity volleyball team for four years, training more than nine hours each week during school seasons and an additional three to eight hours independently.
As one of two outside hitters in a six-player lineup, I contribute to both attack and defense, responding to pressure through timing, spatial awareness, and trust in my teammates. These years of repeated movement also inspired my visual-art project Before Falling, which examines anticipation, imbalance, gravity, and body memory.

Music
Violin and the Practice of Listening
I have studied violin for nine years and achieved ABRSM Grade 8. As a member of the ISB Orchestra for four years, I have performed in more than ten concerts for combined audiences of over 1,500 people.
Through rehearsals, sectionals, and individual practice, I have developed technical skills in intonation, shifting, vibrato, bow control, and sight-reading. More importantly, ensemble playing has taught me to listen beyond my own part—to adjust tone, rhythm, and expression in response to the musicians around me.

Theatre
Stage Performer in Peach Blossom Spring
I performed as a nurse in the original one-hour stage production Peach Blossom Spring. Preparing for the role involved analyzing the script, memorizing lines, developing the character, rehearsing blocking, and refining timing and delivery through small-group practice.
Beyond my own performance, I gave peers feedback on expression and pacing, coordinated costume changes and prop placement, and worked with a cast of more than nine students to stage the production for an audience of over 150. Theatre strengthened my understanding of how voice, gesture, costume, objects, and space work together to create meaning.
