Art in Public

What happens when creative work enters a community?

I am interested not only in making images and objects, but also in what happens when they meet an audience. A garment can raise funds. A social-media post can make someone feel less isolated. A live broadcast can allow people beyond a physical venue to participate in a shared event.

These projects have taught me to consider creativity as a public practice shaped by access, collaboration, response, and responsibility.

Charity Fashion Show

Designing and Producing for Roundabout Charity

As lead designer and organizer of a two-student charity fashion show, I designed six original garments, five of which were fully wearable, and created handmade accessories using unconventional materials.

I also managed the wider production: coordinating with a tailor and six models, planning lighting and music, arranging poses and formations, directing rehearsals, and overseeing hair, makeup, props, and styling. The event mobilized more than 100 participants and supporters, reached an audience of over 200, and raised proceeds for Roundabout Charity and the vulnerable communities it supports.

Moon Phases Collection

Inspired by the changing phases of the moon and landscapes illuminated by moonlight, this collection brings together elements of water, flowers, and butterflies to create a dreamlike nocturnal scene. We experimented with different types of glue to produce glossy, wet-look textures, evoking the surface of the sea and the shifting reflections of moonlight. Through layered materials and organic forms, the collection captures the mystery and fluidity of the natural world after dark.

Chuxin Youth Mental Health Initiative

Making Difficult Emotions Easier to Discuss

Chuxin is a youth mental-health initiative that uses accessible visual content to discuss anxiety, loneliness, depression, and emotional regulation on RedNote.

I wrote posts, designed visual materials, and led a makeup-and-styling series that translated different emotional experiences into color, texture, expression, and character. I developed the looks, applied makeup, directed models, filmed and edited the content, and managed its publication. The account grew to more than 1,000 followers and received over 10,000 likes and saves. Through comments and private messages, we also provided peer support to more than ten students.

ISB Live 4 YouTube

Extending Events Beyond the Room

Through ISB Live 4 YouTube, I help broadcast school sports, theatre productions, and concerts to audiences who cannot attend in person.

I set up cameras and filming equipment, captured live photo and video content, and supported scheduling and production planning for approximately three major events each year. Live production has taught me to make visual decisions in real time: anticipating action, switching attention, and maintaining continuity without the opportunity to reshoot. My work has contributed to a student-run channel reaching more than 1,000 subscribers.
